MUSIC

"Alphabet Rockers keep the culture of hip hop alive and instill in our children an appreciation for the rhythm, poetry, positivity, and movement that make up one of the most appreciated art forms on the globe." - At Home Dad Matters.

The Playground Zone

In The Playground Zone (EP), Alphabet Rockers amplify important messages with a suite of new songs covering topics of skin color, neuro-diversity, and envisioning the impact each of us has in shaping our world. The "Kids Music Icon" [Red Tricycle] positions these "adult" conversations in "kid" terms, providing a forum for our children to lead us forward with honesty and integrity. The songs were recorded at Zoo Labs, Alphabet Rockers' music accelerator program in Oakland, CA with Producer Brad Dollar, and mastered by Colin Leonard (Leona Lewis, Justin Bieber, Ludacris). Alphabet Rockers were funded by the East Bay Community Foundation to write and record the songs on the EP, and will tour the live hip hop theatrical show for the EP in 2016-2017. The Playground Zone speaks to the authenticity of Alphabet Rockers, sharing positive messages of community and being an ally.

PLAYERS' LIFE

Lyrics
[Chorus]
HEY - i just want you to know i wanna
PLAY - don't stop just go - gonna
STAY - in the playground zone-
live that life til the street lights come on
VERSE
All my players - together - whatever the whether we play
Wall ball, kickball, baseball, tether -
We're all instant friends and we're down for each other
No kingdom on the playground we're kings and queens forever
Like swinging with your sisters, and sliding with your brothers
We ALL are the jam and it's ALL peanut butter
It's what it is - It's how we get down
It's the player's life out on the playground
HEY - i just want you to know i wanna
PLAY - don't stop just go - gonna
STAY - in the playground zone-
live that life til the street lights come on
[interlude]
[CHORUS]
VERSE 2
Here's the rules: there's only one kind
be courteous, cool, no one gets left behind
Take turns, everything'll be fine
and we can sort it out when it's clean up time
'Cause, what's - yours is yours, and what's mine is mine,
And we can - laugh together in the monkey bar line
Its what it is - It's how we grind
In the players life- it's always playtime
CHORUS / INTERLUDE
VERSE
Tag! You're It! - we're back and we're racing
This time we're all in outer space, chasing
- Check the swings they'll fly you to the moon
Hey - bring back a kick ball, we'll need one soon!
Who's up? ME - it's my turn to swing
I pushed you, can you push me?
As high as you can, underdog please?
Watch us as we do our thing!
CHORUS/OUTRO

Gimme Some Skin

Lyrics
[CHORUS]
I need a hand - UP UP UP
Can I get a little help now-- UP UP UP
Don't let me down
Can you be down, down, down?
[VERSE]
Once upon a time all lands were united
One world one life one sun was provided
One people - skin so beautiful
Tones like jewels - each one original
Flash to the future, story's still the same
Reflections of the past - gifts that we claim
One legend that was passed around
"Everyone's skin was a different shade of brown."
my skin color is
your skin color is
my skin color is
your skin color is
my skin color is
your skin color is
my skin color is
your skin color is
[CHORUS]
Skin color is a spectrum we know that fact
Highlight its beauty through high five contact
Human is human we have the same parts
Skin tones are different but not too far apart
Every high-5 is special because we are
The colors, together they raise the bar
Bringing us together, dropping that guard
Give me that rock I'll show you that star
[CHORUS]
We stick together
Thick or thin
So gimme some
Gimme some skin
We stick together
Thick or thin
So gimme some
Gimme some skin
Let them know you're alive
Put your hands up to the sky
Look somebody in the eyes
Rock that ultimate High 5
Let them know you're alive
Put your hands up to the sky
Look somebody in the eyes
Rock that ultimate High 5

Eat the Rainbow

Lyrics
I'm hungry—Whatcha gonna eat?
I'll eat the rainbow—And skip the sweets!
I'm gonna stand tall—With super powers
Let's live long—That's right!
It's the mid afternoon hunger attack
And I'm thinking about that super snack
I need a colorful array of things to munch
Like apple or orange or a purple grape bunch
I have to snack, I need to eat all of the colors, won't miss a beat
Breakfast starts with a yellow banana
Followed by a glass of white milk
Add an orange for some Vitamin C
And a piece of brown toast 'cause that's chill
Dinner's here, I sit with my family
To eat colors of every kind
Orange carrot, purple eggplant, yellow peppers
Eat the rainbow and expand our minds
[CHORUS]
[CHORUS]
Snack time is when I eat my red apple
And a piece of yellow cheese
I've packed white yogurt and blueberries
And a stick of green celery
[CHORUS]
Lunch bell rings, I brought a sandwich
Turkey that's lean white meat
On top I've got red tomato and green lettuce
It's a lunch that can't be beat
[CHORUS]

Food Songs

Lyrics
[Chorus]
Got me thinking about food songs...
[Family favorite] One potato two potato three potato four
Five potato six potato seven potato more!
[Sesame Street] C is for cookie, that's good enough for me!
C is for cookie, cookie starts with C!
[Family favorite]
Peas porridge in the pot nine days old
[Family favorite]
Peanut... peanut butter and jelly
[The J.B.'s]
Pass the peas - pass the peas, like they used to say
[The Buckwheat Boys]
Peanut butter jelly time!
[Duran Duran]
'Cause we're hungry like the wolf....
[Family favorite (Tom Glazer)]
On top of spagetti, all covered with cheese
I lost my poor meatball, when somebody sneezed
Ah-ooooo!!!!!!
[Weird Al + Michael Jackson] Eat it (eat it)
Eat it (eat it)
If it's getting cold reheat it!
Have a banana, have a whole bunch
It doesn't matter what you had for lunch Just eat it.....
[Harry Belafonte]
Come Mister tally man, tally me banana
Daylight come and me wanna go home
[Prince]
Starfish and coffee
Maple syrup and jam
Butterscotch clouds, a tambourine
A side order of ham
If you set your mind free, baby
maybe you'll understand
Starfish and coffee
Maple syrup and jam

Seven Days of the Week

Lyrics
All right, everybody!
It’s time to put your hands in the air.
And wave them like you just don’t care—
like a palm tree in the breeze!
Now let’s count the days of the week
One to seven, Sunday to Saturday
With a brand new beat
Sunday’s our first day
Monday makes it two
Tuesday brings our days to three
One, Two, Three
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday
One, Two, Three
Sunday—one
Monday—two
Tuesday—three
Wednesday—four
Thursday—five
Friday—six
Saturday—seven
Let’s try to make some ocean waves out there!
You can even make the sound—swoosh.
That was great! Let’s try it twice as fast!
Wednesday is our fourth day
Thursday makes it five
Friday brings our days to six
Four, Five, Six
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Four, Five, Six
Sunday—one
Monday—two
Tuesday—three
Wednesday—four
Thursday—five
Friday—six
Saturday—seven
Now it’s time to become those fish,
swimming in the ocean!
Can you make a fish face?
That’s hard!—I can!
Alphabet Rockers—you did it!
Let’s put our hands in the air!
Where are my palm trees? Palm trees in the breeze!
I’m going to do some of those ocean waves—yea!
If you’re a fish in the house—I want to see that fish face!
Let the fish swim through the ocean waves...
All right everybody, it’s time to scratch it out like a DJ!
Each week has seven days
So there’s still one more
Saturday is our seventh day
Seventh day
Saturday
Seventh day
