SCHOOL RESIDENCIES (K-5)
Bring Alphabet Rockers to your school for teaching artist residencies in music, dance and expression.
K-1 FOUNDATIONS OF HIP HOP. Students will learn the foundations of rhythm and music through games, beatboxing, rhyming and singing. At the end of the residency, the students will have explored their own sense of expression and story, have learned musical terminology, will have learned how to beatbox. Teachers will learn hip songs to integrate directly into the K-1 curriculum after the residency has ended, and will have two Parents’ Choice Award winning CDs with hip hop beats and curricular content to use in the classroom. Kaitlin McGaw, a founding member of Alphabet Rockers, is the songwriter for the 30+ songs available to the residency, and customizes each residency to meet the curricular needs of the classroom. “She knows how to strategically engage the little ones in a way that is always fun, but also keeps a focus on connecting to school-desired themes (like curriculum content, character education, etc.).” There is a one-time material fee of $20 associated with this residency, for the provision of two music CDs, to be used in the classroom well after the residency has ended.
2-5 BUILDING BLOCKS OF HIP HOP. Students will explore rhythm, rhyme, and songwriting through musical games, beatboxing, and writing raps and hooks. At the end of the residency, students will have written their own rhymes and a foundation for a song, have learned musical terminology, and will have learned how to beatbox. Tommy Shepherd, with over 10 years of teaching artist experience, brings expertise in music and writing residencies, and will customize each residency to meet the needs of the students.
PARENT/CHILD MUSIC CLASSES (age 3-6)

Designed to teach the foundations of music and rhythm, and curated for the musical enjoyment of parents and kids, Alphabet Rockers offer unique hip hop music classes. Classes are available for a house party, birthday party, or in a longer block for your pre-school, daycare center, or community center, in 4-8 week blocks. Curriculum includes hip hop music, rhythm games, beatboxing and dance that you can enjoy with your child or children as a family. (age 3-6)
