In 2014, Alphabet Rockers performed 70 shows around the country.

We are so proud! This has been a year of incredible community engagement for Alphabet Rockers. Some highlights included:

  • Opening for Ozomatli’s kids group “OzoKidz” December 20 at The Fillmore - a historic music venue that is dear to our hearts with an incredible musical group that we love! Tickets
  • Headlining the Kindiecomm Showcase in Philadelphia – thanks to our friends at WXPN Kids Corner and with support from Creative Capacity Fund in San Francisco – this was an incredible time to meet and work with the talent from around the globe who entertain kids and families.
  • Partnering with Asian Art Museum in San Francisco - creating an engaging arts day around the exhibit “Gorgeous,” we created super hero capes, built family beats, glittery letter necklaces and a rockin’ show
  • Providing Bullying Prevention shows in schools around the country – “The New Kid in School” brought more joy and understanding to us than ever before, as kids shared their ideas about how to confront teasing, and how understanding one another’s commonalities and differences can help build inclusion.
  • Headlining Tricycle Music Festival and working with Bay Area libraries – Reading rocks in the Bay Area, and we are so grateful to the dozens of shows we did at local libraries this year. Thank you for including music in your literacy programs!
  • Selling out our Bay Area beloved venues (Ashkenaz and Freight & Salvage) – these local institutions always support us as artists, and seeing our fans pack them to the brim each year is the greatest success we could know.
  • Performing our first bilingual (Spanish/English) show in San Jose – with our newest Alphabet Rocker, Gendell “G” Hing-Hernandez, we created a bilingual show to perform for our beautiful Spanish-speaking community

Behind the scenes this year, we have filmed our web series and worked on post-production, and taught 1600 kids music and movement classes in K-5 classrooms. We even had the joy of welcoming new performers into the family of Alphabet Rockers (Gendell “G” Hing-Herndandez, Mega Mike Calpito (DJ), and new members of our own families (with Stefanie’s baby boy).

We have dedicated our lives this year to creating healthier families, schools and communities through the combination of culturally responsive educational methodologies with music and movement – and it works. Miles to go, and much work to do around social justice for our country, but we will continue to stand and strive with you in the joy of music and dance.

Thank you all for being on the journey with us, and here’s to 2015.
